KKR launches #ShahoshiRani to honour courageous women of India

Summary

Kolkata Knight Riders launched the #ShahoshiRani initiative to honour courageous women of India, celebrating it alongside the 8th edition of Knight Golf. The initiative focuses on women’s empowerment through sports, skill-building, and education, reinforcing KKR’s commitment to social change beyond cricket.

NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders’ #ShahoshiRani initiative took center stage alongside the 8th edition of Knight Golf at The Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) on April 22, 2025, marking a powerful tribute to India’s brave and resilient women. The initiative celebrates extraordinary stories of women who have shown unmatched courage in the face of life’s toughest challenges.

As the reigning TATA IPL champions, KKR has once again proven that their commitment goes beyond the cricket field. The #ShahoshiRani initiative is rooted in three impactful pillars — Play It Forward, Skill Up For Equality, and the Vidushee Programme. Each of these arms focuses on enabling women through education, livelihood skills, and sports, aiming to create lasting social change.

“The #ShahoshiRani initiative exemplifies KKR’s values beyond cricket. By celebrating these remarkable women alongside Knight Golf, we’re reinforcing our commitment to meaningful social change,” said Venky Mysore, CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders.

Empowering Real-Life Queens Through Sport and Skill

The event was a celebration of both excellence in sport and the incredible spirit of women from underserved backgrounds. Beneficiaries from each of the initiative’s focus areas were present, sharing their journeys of transformation, resilience, and determination.

“This initiative embodies the strength, hope, and resilience we witness in women daily. Through #ShahoshiRani and events like Knight Golf, we leverage sports and storytelling to generate meaningful community impact,” said Binda Dey, CMO, Knight Riders Sports.

“When we were ideating for this campaign, we realised KKR’s ‘Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo’ philosophy isn’t limited to cricket, but applies brilliantly outside the field as well. If KKR’s men are ‘Knights’, these girls and women are the true ‘Queens’ in real life. Thus, the idea of Shahoshi Rani (Brave Queen) was born,” shared Ram Cobain, Chief Creative Officer at Mullen Lintas.

The initiative addresses three key areas:

  • Livelihood Training: Women from marginalised communities are trained in tailoring and beauty services to help them achieve financial independence.
  • Sports & Mental Health: Girls from rural areas and rehabilitation homes are enrolled in sports-based programs that also offer psychological support.
  • Education Access: Tribal girls are trained as community educators, now teaching first-generation learners in some of the most remote villages of India.

With support from Principal Donor Sugam Homes, Associate Partner Hedonne, and Apparel Partner Athletic Drive, the event was a resounding success. All proceeds from the Knight Golf event will directly benefit the Meer Foundation and other women-centric initiatives, amplifying the reach and impact of #ShahoshiRani.

Through this thoughtful and heartfelt initiative, Kolkata Knight Riders have not just celebrated champions on the cricket field, but have also crowned a league of real-life queens.
