Kerala Governor Orders Vice Chancellors Of 9 Varsities To Resign

In an unprecedented move that is sure to add more fire to the ongoing slugfest between Arif Mohammad and the ruling Left Democratic Front, the Kerala Governor has demanded the resignation of Vice Chancellors of nine Kerala Universities. The governor took to Twitter to reiterate his demand.

The Governor’s order was tweeted from his official handle. “Upholding the verdict of Hon’ble SupremeCourt dt 21.10.22 in Civil Appeal Nos.7634-7635 of 2022(@ SLP(c)Nos.21108-21109 of 2021) Hon’ble Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan has directed Vice Chancellors of 9 varsities in Kerala(see image) to tender resignation: PRO,KeralaRajBhavan,” he tweeted.

The Universities named are – University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sri Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, University of Calicut, Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.

The Supreme Court on Friday held as “illegal” and “void ab initio” the appointment of Rajasree M S as the Vice Chancellor of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Thiruvananthapuram.

The ruling LDF has accused the governor of trying to “destroy the autonomy of the universities and to replace the senate members of Kerala University with RSS supporters.
