NEW DELHI: On Monday, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar asserted that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s strong commitment to appeasement politics hinders his ability to effectively address radical elements within a specific community.

In a Press Conference today, the IT Minister responded to CM Vijayan’s claims stating that the BJP was making the Kochi blast about religion. He questioned why Vijayan becomes so visibly upset when Hamas is mentioned.

While talking to The New Indian, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said, “I don’t feel anyone in this world will disagree with the fact that Hamas is perpetrating the worst kinds of terror against children, women and innocent people who beheaded babies, raped women just 10 days ago. So, when somebody says Hamas, why CM Pinarayi Vijayan have to say we are targeting people from x community or y community.”

Chandrasekhar also alleged that Kerala under CM Vijayan has shown tolerance towards radical elements and radicalisation.

“I didn’t speak about any community, why does it bother him when someone speaks about Hamas. That’s the fact to prove that he is so deeply invested in appeasement politics that today he is not able to deal with the radical elements of a particular community,” he explained.

Vijayan, during a brief press meeting held at the Secretariat complex in Thiruvananthapuram, alleged that the statements by the BJP leader were the reflection of an absolute communal outlook.

Responding to the Chief Minister’s remarks, Chandrasekhar clarified that he did not mention any specific community on social media. He emphasised that he was specifically addressing the issue of Hamas. “It was almost like the CM was trying to equate Hamas with the broader Muslim brothers and sisters of our state and country,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Vijayan paid a visit to the Zamra International Convention Centre, the site of the explosions, and the medical college where the injured people are currently receiving treatment.

He was joined by a group of ministers, and through a social media update, the CM conveyed that the investigation into the series of explosions at the religious gathering, which tragically resulted in three fatalities, was making significant progress.

The blasts that occurred oon Sunday during a Jehovah’s Witness prayer convention at Kalamassery in Ernakulam district on Sunday resulted in three casualties and 41 injuries. The incident has raised concerns about potential social tensions and the importance of maintaining unity and harmony in Kerala.
