NEW DELHI: Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra marked the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma on Saturday, reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing his unfinished projects and carrying forward his vision for the capital. Addressing a massive gathering at Swabhiman Sthal, Mishra highlighted the overwhelming public presence as a testament to Verma’s lasting impact.
“The sheer number of people gathered here is proof of Sahib Singh Ji’s towering legacy. We are determined to fulfill his pending initiatives and ensure his ideals continue to shape Delhi’s progress,” he declared.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Delhi ministers Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ashish Sood, and other senior leaders, paid floral tributes at the event. Parvesh Verma, son of the late Chief Minister, recalled his father’s significant contributions to Delhi’s development, stressing that many of the key reforms initiated under the BJP government three decades ago would now be rejuvenated.
“For years, Delhi experienced political stagnation. We are now determined to bring Sahib Singh Verma’s vision to life and build a ‘Viksit Delhi’,” Parvesh Verma asserted.
A towering figure in Delhi’s political landscape, Sahib Singh Verma served as the city’s Chief Minister from 1996 to 1998 and played a crucial role in shaping BJP’s governance policies. His son, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, has since expanded his responsibilities, recently taking oath as a New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) member with a commitment to improving civic infrastructure. He announced a plan to install 9,000 new water connections within the next six to eight months, alongside efforts to combat chronic waterlogging through anti-encroachment drives.
The Verma family’s political legacy was further underscored in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, where Parvesh Verma secured a resounding victory over former CM Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency by a margin of over 4,000 votes. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit finished in third place. The BJP’s dominant win—securing 48 seats—marked its return to power in Delhi after 27 years, reinforcing its development-centric governance approach.
As tributes poured in for Sahib Singh Verma, the BJP reiterated its commitment to infrastructure development and public welfare, framing the late leader’s anniversary as a symbolic moment in Delhi’s future growth trajectory.
