Kajol’s 80-year-old mom Tanuja hospitalised

NEW DELHI Veteran actress Tanuja, and mother of Bollywood actor Kajol and mother-in-law to actor Ajay Devgn, was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Sunday evening due to age-related illness. The 80-year-old actress is currently under observation in the ICU of a hospital in Juhu, as reported by a new agency. However, sources reassure that she is doing well and there is no cause for concern.

Tanuja, born to filmmaker Kumarsen Samarth and actress Shobhna Samarth, has had a prolific career in both Hindi and Bengali cinema. Starting as a child actor in Hamari Beti (1950) alongside her elder sister Nutan, she later transitioned to lead roles with her debut in Hamari Yaad Aayegi (1961). Her filmography includes notable works such as Baharein Phir Bhi Ayengi (1966), Jewel Thief (1969), Paisa Ya Pyaar (1969), Haathi Mere Saathi (1971), and Mere Jeevan Sathi (1972).

In Bengali cinema, Tanuja contributed to films like Deya Neya (1963), Anthony-Firingee (1967), Teen Bhuvaner Parey (1969), and Rajkumari (1970). Her versatility and talent have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Tanuja married filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee and together they have two daughters, Kajol and Tanisha. She celebrated her 80th birthday in September, and her family, including Kajol, Tanisha, and Ajay Devgn, took to social media to extend warm wishes. Kajol expressed her gratitude for the valuable life lessons her mother taught her, stating, “Happy eightieth birthday, mom. I can never thank you enough for everything you’ve taught me by example and still continue to do so today.”

Tanisha also shared a heartfelt message, calling her mother a warrior and a source of inspiration. “Happy birthday my Maaaaa! My warrior my devi! The one who showed me that age is just a number and that life is for living on ur own terms!” Tanisha wrote on social media.
