SENSATIONAL: J&K Police arrest celebrated cop Sheikh Aadil over corruption; hobnobbed with media daily

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested a deputy superintendent rank officer Sheikh Aadil Mushtaq on charges of corruption. Srinagar Police have confirmed his arrest.

The police officer enjoyed prominence with sections of Delhi media, hobnobbed with them and celebrated officers of J&K Police itself.

The J&K police officer has been arrested under sections 7, 7A of Prevention of corruption Act and sections 167, 193,201,210,218,221 of IPC registered in Nowgam PS.

According to section 167 of Indian penal code (IPC), “Whoever, being a public servant, and being, as such public servant, charged with the preparation or translation of any document, frames or translates that document in a manner which he knows or believes to be incorrect, intending thereby to cause or knowing it to be likely that he may thereby cause injury to any person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.”

Section 221 of the IPC states that if a public servant, who is responsible for apprehending someone charged with an offense, intentionally fails to do so or aids their escape, they can be punished with different terms of imprisonment and fines depending on the severity of the offense, ranging from two to seven years.

In view of larger ramifications in this case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP South constituted for investigation of this case.

Sheikh is a 2015 batch Kashmir Police services (KPS) officer. In the past, several officers of Kashmir Police have come under scrutiny over various pressing issues related to security and counter terrorism.
