NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir administration announced compensation and government jobs to the kin of the three civilians who were found dead under mysterious circumstances, on Saturday.
The development comes at a time when political parties and family members of the deceased have claimed that they had died in the custody of “48 Rashtriya Rifles”.

“The death of three civilians was reported yesterday in Baffliaz of Poonch District. The medico legal formalities were conducted and legal action in this matter has been initiated by the appropriate authority. Government has announced compensation for each of the deceased. Further Government has also announced compassionate appointments to the next of kin of each deceased,” said a statement issued on microblogging site, X, by the Information and Public Relations department of the J&K administration.
The dead bodies were buried in the afternoon at their native village of Topa Peer. The burial was attended by Jammu divisional commissioner Ramesh Kumar Jangid, Poonch deputy magistrate Choudhary Mohammad Yasin, SSP Vinay Kumar and other officials.
The deceased were identified as Safeer Hussain, 44, Showket Ali, 22, and Shabir Hussain, 32. The bodies of the three was handed over to their respective families following the post-mortem, at 8 am.
Earlier on Thursday, terrorists, allegedly from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror groups, had ambushed two Indian Army vehicles. Following which, nine civilians were picked up in connection with the ambush on Friday.

Mohammed Sadeeq, 45, the panch of the village, said that the deceased were poor people and had no links with Thursday’s attacks. He claimed that the detained men were first taken to Mal post where they were tortured and then shifted to Bafliaz post.
“Dead bodies were handed over to us at 8am today (Saturday). We are going to bury them today, but we demand justice. We also ask the army to give us the evidence of their involvement in any terror activity,” he said.
He further accused the Army of using chilli powder and acid to torture them, claiming that the deceased bore multiple injury marks.
