NEW DELHI: Reacting to AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi’s criticism of showering of flower petals on kanwariyas, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Wednesday asked Owaisi: Is not government money used for Haj Yatra, Haj Houses and Muharram?

VHP joint general secretary Dr Surendra Jain said that all Hindu temples, mutts and religious places are under government control and contribute huge money to the government coffers. “If a small amount of the same money is used for showering flower petals on kanwariyas, why should anyone have a problem with that,” he asked.

He further added that on the contrary mosques contribute no income to the government and government money is used to pay Maulanas, the upkeep of madrasas and Waqf properties.

On Wednesday, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticised the Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh for showering flower petals on kanwariyas. Owaisi had said that the Yogi government showers flower petals on kanwariyas and bulldozes the houses of Muslims.

Dr Jain said that such statements from Owaisi are aimed at inciting the Muslim population. “It is because of such statements by Owaisi that there is a storm of hatred in a section of the Muslim population in the country,” he said.
