Interim Budget envisions ‘Viksit Bharat’, ‘golden moments’ in 5 years

NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared the government’s intention to instigate forward-looking reforms aimed at propelling the nation’s growth. She expressed the vision of witnessing unprecedented development and golden moments, with the ultimate goal of transforming India into a developed country (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.

Sitharaman, while introducing the interim Budget 2024-25 in the Lok Sabha, stated that the government is actively working to rectify systemic inequalities and is giving significant importance to achieving positive outcomes for socio-economic transformation, according to a report by news agency PTI.

Sitaraman also highlighted that there have been periodic and suitable increases in the minimum support prices for farmers. “We focus on outcomes and not outlays.”

She emphasised that, for the government, the poor, women, youth, and farmers constitute the key focal points, referring to them as the “four castes.” She added that social justice serves as an essential and impactful model. The minister also spoke about the India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor recently introduced, stating that it has the potential to significantly alter India’s economic landscape.

She declared that the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) has established a strong conduit for the influx of foreign capital, as reported by PTI. Sitharaman introduced the interim Budget in the ongoing Parliament Budget session, marking the final session of the current Lok Sabha before the anticipated General Elections in April-May. The upcoming government is expected to present the complete Budget in July.
