NEW DELHI: An anonymous group claiming to represent IndiGo pilots has released an open letter addressed to the people of India, expressing serious concerns over pilot fatigue, safety compromises, and what they describe as a profit-driven culture at the country’s largest airline.

The letter, shared by aviation commentator AWCS (@AeroAwcs) on X on December 6 and now viewed more than 215K times, states that IndiGo’s internal culture has shifted from pride and teamwork to pressure and exhaustion.

The open letter reads:
“We started off small in 2006. We were proud—genuinely proud—of what we were building. But somewhere along the way, pride turned into arrogance, and growth turned into greed.”

Pilots allege that the pressure to expand operations has resulted in unsafe rosters and extreme fatigue, with restrictions tightened after protesting attempts.
“When fatigue rules changed in ways that made our schedules even more brutal, there were attempts to organize. Anyone who tried to push back was shut up, and no regulation pushed back.”

“IndiGo Will Collapse if It Continues Treating People Like They Don’t Matter”

The letter warns of possible consequences if concerns continue to be ignored:
“This airline became great because of its people—pilots, engineers, ground staff, cabin crew. And those people are pleading for help. It’s time for a turning point.”

It further states:
“IndiGo will not collapse from paying its employees fairly. But it will collapse if it continues treating them like they don’t matter.”

Pilots argue that the company culture has eroded morale:
“It breaks my heart to see how something we built with pride is now held together by fear, exhaustion, and silence.”

DGCA Fatigue Rules at Center of Debate

In a linked post, AWCS criticizes DGCA for easing restrictions that limited early-morning flights:
“DGCA dropped a simple, life-saving rule: Flight departs before 0600? Max 2 sectors only. Because 3 AM wake-ups are still NIGHT for the human body.”

Reactions From Aviation Community

Aviation professionals have responded on X, supporting the pilots’ concerns.

One pilot account wrote:
“Any human with half a black heart and half a wiring brain can sense the emotion.”

Another aviation commentator, Prateek Lute, argued that hiring more pilots is the solution:
“There are about 4700 jobless pilots in India as of today. Safety is a thing! Take it seriously. Don’t just run behind making blind money.”

AWCS responded:
“What if I tell you they already have more than enough pilots, at least 20% excess.”
