NEW DELHI:  The sixth edition of the India-Uzbekistan Joint Military Exercise DUSTLIK-VI commenced today at the Foreign Training Node in Aundhra, Pune, and will continue until April 28. This bilateral training initiative strengthens defence cooperation between the two nations.

The Indian Army is represented by a battalion of the JAT Regiment along with Indian Air Force personnel, while the Uzbekistan Army forms the visiting contingent. The exercise alternates annually between the two countries, with the previous edition held in Termez District, Uzbekistan in April 2024.

Focus on Urban Counterterrorism Operations

The theme for DUSTLIK-VI centers around Joint Multi-Domain Sub-Conventional Operations in a Semi-Urban Scenario, simulating a counter-terrorist response involving the capture of designated territory. Key operational elements include:

  • Establishment of a Joint Operations Centre at the battalion level
  • Population control measures, raids, and search-and-destroy missions
  • Employment of air assets and firepower for terrorist neutralization
  • Special forces operations, including securing a helipad for future deployment
  • Helicopter-based reconnaissance, SHBO, and STIE missions
  • Use of drones and counter-UAS systems
  • Logistics support from the Air Force in hostile zones

Boost to India-Uzbekistan Defence Ties

Exercise DUSTLIK-VI aims to foster interoperability, knowledge exchange, and strategic coordination between the armed forces of India and Uzbekistan. It also reinforces the growing bonhomie and trust between the two nations, further enhancing bilateral defence relations.

The joint drill serves as a platform for both militaries to share best practices in tackling emerging security threats and refine their Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for urban warfare and counterterrorism.
