NEW DELHI : In the inaugural One-Day International, India defeated England in an exciting encounter on February 6, 2025, at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after successfully reaching the target of 248 in 38.4 overs and winning by four wickets.

Jos Buttler chose to bat first against India after winning the toss earlier. England posted a competitive total of 248 runs. Jos Buttler (52) and Jacob Bethell (51) were the standout performers with their half-centuries. However, England faltered in the latter part of their innings, losing wickets at crucial moments.
The bowlers for England, Adil Rashid and Saqib Mahmood, each claimed two wickets. Nevertheless, their efforts were insufficient to stop India from easily pursuing the target.

With Virat Kohli ruled out due to a right knee injury sustained on Wednesday evening, Shubman Gill stepped up to lead the chase with a composed 87 runs. He was initially supported by Shreyas Iyer, who scored a brisk 59, and Axar Patel, who added an impressive 52. Their partnerships of 94 and 108 runs, respectively, were crucial in India’s successful chase. Despite losing early wickets, including Rohit Sharma (2) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (15) , India’s middle-order staged a brilliant recovery.
India’s bowlers played a key role in keeping England to a modest total of 248 runs. With numbers of 3/53, debutant Harshit Rana made an impression, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed 3/261. The pair applied pressure throughout the innings and prevented England from forming meaningful partnerships.
