NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in high-level talks with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations across trade, investment, infrastructure, and innovation. The discussions also covered key regional and global issues, including India-EU relations and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
In a special ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Christodoulides honored PM Modi with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus’ highest civilian award, recognizing his leadership and contributions to strengthening India-Cyprus ties.
Later, the two leaders will visit Nicosia Town Hall and make a symbolic joint stop at the United Nations ceasefire line, highlighting India’s enduring role in global peacekeeping. The visit will conclude with an official lunch hosted by the Cypriot President before PM Modi departs for Canada to attend the G7 Summit.
Boosting Economic Collaboration:
Ahead of the talks, PM Modi and President Christodoulides co-chaired a Business Roundtable in Lemesos, bringing together top entrepreneurs from both nations. Key outcomes include Cyprus’ decision to integrate with India’s UPI payment system, an MoU between NSE GIFT City and the Cyprus Stock Exchange, and a $100 million investment pledge by Cyprus-based BAO Capital Partners for India-focused ventures.
The visit marks a significant step in deepening economic and strategic cooperation between India and Cyprus.
