UDAIPUR: Controversial BJP leader Kapil Mishra on Saturday visited the residence of Kanhaiya Lal Teli who was murdered by two Islamist extremists, and announced financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the victim’s family.

Mishra met Teli’s sons and wife at their decrepit home at Sector 14 in Udaipur’s Hiran Magri and assured them of support in the future.

Speaking to The New Indian, the BJP leader said, “We had promised to stand by his family. To fulfil our promise, we have come here to provide the financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to them.”

“Our team has received donations of Rs 1.7 crore from more than 14,000 people. Out of the money collected, Rs 1 crore will be given to the family of Teli,” he said.

He also announced that Rs 25 lakh will be provided to Ishwar Singh, who was injured in the brutal attack at Teli’s tailoring shop on June 28. Mishra also met the family of Ishwar Singh at Maharana Bhupal Hospital and enquired about his health.

He also said that he will provide Rs 5 lakh to Rajasthan Police constable Sandeep sustained injuries in the attack when he, along with other policemen, was trying to arrest the two accused in Rajsamand.

Mishra also said he will provide Rs 30 lakh of financial assistance to Umesh Kolhe who was also murdered for supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in Maharashtra’s Amravati.

When asked about Congress slamming the BJP over the pictures of BJP minority cell leader Irshad Chainwala with one of the killers, he said, “I think Congress supports jihad. A man has been murdered in such a way and they want to hide it.”

If Congress thinks that the accused was associated with the BJP, Rahul Gandhi should say that Islamic terrorism should be destroyed, Mishra said.

The BJP leader was in the eye of a storm during anti-CAA protests in Delhi in 2020 when colloquial slogans with veil communal threats were made in full public glare.

The slogans included ‘desh ke gaddaro ko…’, essentially asking people to eliminate the anti-nationals.
