PATNA, BIHAR: In a shocking incident reminiscent of the Jyoti Maurya case in Uttar Pradesh, another tale of betrayal has unfolded in Bihar’s Vaishali district.

A devoted husband, Chandan Kumar sold his land to fulfil his wife Sarita’s dream of becoming a teacher. However, as soon as his wife achieved her goal, she betrayed him by eloping with the school principal where she was working. Now, heartbroken and seeking justice, Chandan has turned to the police for assistance.

The incident took place in Mahipura village, under the jurisdiction of the Jandaha police station in Vaishali. Thirteen years ago, in 2010, Chandan and Sarita entered into a love marriage with the understanding that education would not be an obstacle in their relationship.

Chandan wholeheartedly supported Sarita’s educational pursuits, selling off their farmland to fund her ambition of becoming a teacher. When Sarita finally secured a teaching position in February 2022, Chandan’s joy knew no bounds, and he proudly shared the news with their entire family.

Little did Chandan know that his happiness would be short-lived. After a year and a half of teaching, Chandan discovered that Sarita had engaged in an extramarital affair with the school principal. This devastating revelation shattered Chandan’s world.

“As she was interested in studying, we borrowed the money and also sold the piece of land. She was eventually recruited as a teacher on February 23, 2022, and deployed to Shahpur Patori primary school in Samastipur district. After one and half years, she ran off with the school principal,” Chandan said in Vaishali.

The couple has a 12-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son, who now find themselves caught in the middle of their parents’ broken relationship.

On July 7, Chandan lodged a complaint against Sarita and the principal, Rahul Kumar, at the Jandaha police station, seeking justice for his pain and betrayal. He revealed that Sarita had cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in 2017, which led to her appointment as a teacher at Naunfar Jodpur Primary School in Shahpur Patori, Samastipur, on February 25, 2022.

Meanwhile, Sarita’s illicit relationship with Principal Rahul Kumar, a resident of Maricha village in Halai OP, blossomed within the school premises.

Since the Durga Puja festival, Sarita has gone missing, and Chandan has been unable to locate her. In desperation, he has written letters to Chief minister Nitish Kumar, the Chief Secretary, the District Magistrate, and the Superintendent of Police, pleading for assistance.

Furthermore, Chandan has accused Sarita’s lover, Rahul, of issuing death threats to him.

“After the job, my wife had taken a rented accommodation in Samastipur. She took the kids for two to three months and then asked to take them away. She does not allow us to live in that flat,” he said.

Recently, on July 1, three people, including headmaster Rahul Kumar, came to my house and threatened me with dire consequences. They were carrying weapons. Then I eventually went to the police station and reported the matter,” he added.
