NEW DELHI: Hockey India Awards 2024 nominee Arshdeep Singh is making headlines. The 20-year-old forward recently debuted for India’s senior team at the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024/25 in Bhubaneswar.
His strong performances earned him a nomination for the prestigious Hockey India Jugraj Singh Award for Upcoming Player of the Year (Men – Under 21).
Arshdeep’s nomination is alongside teammates Amir Ali, Shardanand Tiwari, and Araijeet Singh Hundal.

Hockey India Awards 2024 Nomination
Speaking about his nomination, Arshdeep said, “I didn’t expect this. I feel honored and grateful to Hockey India. Even if I don’t win, this motivates me to improve my game.”
Arshdeep’s senior debut experience has also been memorable. “I played two matches. The structured gameplay of top teams amazed me. Playing alongside seniors boosted my confidence,” he shared.
Journey to the Senior Team
Arshdeep rose to fame during the 2024 Men’s Junior Asia Cup. He scored six goals in the tournament, including crucial strikes in the final against Pakistan.
“I expected my senior debut after the Junior World Cup later this year. But getting selected early was a pleasant surprise,” Arshdeep recalled.
His breakout moment came during the Hockey India League (HIL) earlier this year. Playing for Hyderabad Toofans, Arshdeep shone brightly.
He scored three key goals, helping his team reach the finals. His stellar performance earned him the Upcoming Player of the Tournament award.
“The positive team atmosphere helped me perform well,” Arshdeep said.
Debut Experience and Support from Seniors
Arshdeep vividly remembers the moment he got the news. “I was with my team when I heard about my selection. I called my mom first. It was a proud moment,” he recalled.
On his debut against Spain, Arshdeep felt more excited than nervous. “Sukhjeet told me to play freely and not worry about mistakes,” he shared.
“Captain Harmanpreet Singh promised to win the match to make it memorable for me,” Arshdeep added.
Now, Arshdeep has joined the junior squad camp in Bengaluru. He is preparing for the upcoming Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup in December.
The Hockey India Awards 2024 nomination and senior debut have strengthened Arshdeep’s resolve. He aims to continue his journey with dedication and hard work.
