NEW DELHI: A young girl’s elopement with a Muslim boy has ignited controversy with her family alleging her of being kidnapped at Madhepura in Bihar, on Tuesday.

Her elopement led her mother, Seema Devi, to file an abduction case against the boy, identified as Sahil, and his family at the Madheura Sardar Police Station. She asserted that her daughter was minor when she eloped. However, the incident has now taken a complex turn with the daughter stating that she was not abducted and left consensually.

Following the case’s registration, the girl took to social media, releasing a video asserting consent behind the decision. She stated that she had willingly tied the knot with Sahil, asserting that she is not a minor and an adult.

The incident transpired in the Bhana Tekari area within the Madhepura Sadar police jurisdiction.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Neeraj Babloo linked the matter to the contentious “love jihad” phenomenon. He suggested that it was a case of forced conversion through marriage.
