The Dera chief had challenged all his convictions before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. However, his appeal in the journalist murder case is still pending.

Former Dera manager Ranjit Singh was shot dead 19 years ago, on July 10, 2002, in Khanpur Kolian village in Haryana’s Kurukshetra. It was suspected that he was murdered due to his alleged role in circulating a letter detailing the sexual exploitation of women by the sect head at the Dera headquarters.

The CBI court in Panchkula had convicted Ram Rahim and four others in the case, prompting the sect chief to appeal to the high court.
