KATHUA: A tense confrontation at the Government Medical College Kathua on Wednesday resulted in the fatal shooting of a gangster and severe injuries to a police officer.

According to authorities, a police team from the Ramgarh area of Samba District pursued a notorious gang led by Vasudev, a prime suspect in a murder case at Police Station Ramgarh. In an attempt to evade capture, the criminals drove onto the premises of the Government Medical College Kathua. However, their efforts to hide proved unsuccessful as they encountered law enforcement within the hospital’s corridors.

During the exchange of gunfire between the criminals and the police, Vasudev, a member of the Shunoo group, succumbed to his injuries. Another member of the gang sustained wounds during the altercation.

Probationary Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma sustained serious injuries during the shootout and was immediately transferred to Amandeep Hospital Pathankot for urgent medical treatment. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full extent of the confrontation and bring any remaining perpetrators to justice.
