Fresh Troubles For ‘Kaali’ Makers; Case Registered In U’Khand

DEHRADUN: A case has been registered against the makers of ‘Kaali’, a documentary film, in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.

The film landed in controversy for its poster that the director Leena Manimekalai had shared on Twitter.

The FIR has been filed in Kankhal police station of Haridwar district under section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage reli­gious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code.

Cases have already been registered against Manimekalai in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier, taking umbrage at the ‘offensive’ poster, Gau Mahasabha filed a complaint against filmmaker Manimekalai accusing her of hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community.

A copy of the complaint has been sent to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana demanding to lodge an FIR against the filmmaker.

A day after Delhi Police received a complaint, a case was registered against her at the IFSO (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation) unit of Cyber Cell.

Manimekalai was booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC.

Meanwhile, UP Police has also registered a case under charges of criminal conspiracy, offence in place of worship, deliberately hurting religious sentiments and intention to provoke breach of peace against her at Lucknow’s Hazratganj Police station. The UP police acted on a complaint lodged by advocate Ved Prakash Shukla.
