Four heavily-armed terrorists were killed in a brief encounter with security forces near Tawi bridge in the Sidhra bypass area along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Jammu district on Wednesday morning.

The Jammu Police had received specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. Amid heavy fog, policemen noticed a suspicious truck and followed it. At the Sidhra checkpoint, the driver fled the spot as soon as he made to stop the truck.

When the police started searching the truck, terrorists hiding inside it opened fire. “In retaliation, four terrorists have been eliminated,” said additional director general of police (Jammu) Mukesh Singh.

“They were heavily armed and have been neutralised,” he said, adding that the truck was heading towards Kashmir from Jammu.

Seven AK-47 rifles, one M4 rifle, and three pistols along with ammunition were recovered from the truck. A search is still in progress.

According to the police, the truck owner is yet to be identified.
