NEW DELHI: Pakistani security forces in Balochistan thwarted an armed attack by Baloch militants on the PNS Siddique Naval Air Base on March 26. At least six terrorists were reportedly killed during the operation.

The attack occurred late Monday night in Turbat, a district known for unrest. Militants targeted the airbase from three directions, prompting gunfire and explosions. However, security personnel prevented any damage to the base or its aircraft.

The Balochistan Liberation Army’s Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility, marking their third assault on security forces this year. Previous attacks include one on the Gwadar Port Authority Complex on March 24, resulting in eight militant deaths, and an attempted breach of the Mach jail facility in January.

Balochistan faces persistent insurgency, with separatist factions targeting infrastructure projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The BLA’s Majeed Brigade, known for guerrilla tactics, has targeted security forces and Chinese interests.

Despite the infiltration attempt, security forces repelled the attackers, preserving the base’s integrity. The Pakistan Army is yet to issue an official statement.

This incident underscores Pakistan’s security challenges in Balochistan and the ongoing threat from militant groups in the region. Last week, security forces repelled a BLA attack near Gwadar, resulting in casualties on both sides.
