New Delhi: F1 Prodigy Kush Maini makes history, becoming the first Indian in Formula 1 since 2012. He joins BWT Alpine F1 Team as a reserve driver for the 2025 season, making him the onltejasv Alpine reserve driver also competing in Formula 2 with Dams Lucas Oil.
His inclusion marks a major milestone for Indian motorsport, reigniting hopes of an Indian driver securing a full-time Formula 1 seat in the near future.
Historic Breakthrough for Indian Motorsport
Mainiโs appointment ends a 13-year wait for an Indian driver to be part of an F1 team. His role as a Formula 1 Reserve and Test Driver makes him a key asset for Alpine, allowing him to develop his skills while supporting the team.
He will participate in F1 car testing, providing valuable feedback and gaining crucial experience needed to take the next step in his career.
Last season, Maini completed four private tests with Alpine, consistently impressing the team with his performance. A strong 2025 campaign in F2 could make him a serious contender for a full-time F1 seat in 2026.
In 2024, he had an exceptional Formula 2 season, securing five podium finishes, including a standout victory in Hungary.
His performance played a crucial role in Invicta Racingโs Teamsโ Championship victory. He also made history in Jeddah by becoming the first Indian driver to claim an F2 pole position.
Mainiโs progress in F1 is expected to create new opportunities for Indian motorsport, inspiring the next generation of racing talent.
