KOLKATA: West Bengal’s ruling All India Trinamool Congress questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government’s silence on the saffron party’s members being left unscathed by the central investigating agencies on Monday.

In a press conference conducted by TMC leader Partha Bhowmick said, “The BJP has six members, in particular, Rameshwar Teli, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Saumitra Khan, Jagadambika Pal, Himanta Biswa Sarma and the entire family of the Adhikaris. If both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation are neutral then why have they not received any notice?”

Bhowmick further added that the saffron party was targeting the states where they did not win. “The biggest mistake TMC made was win against the BJP in 2021. We are being targetted the most through the ED and CBI because we dared to challenge them,” said the TMC leader.

Recently, the ED had arrested West Bengal’s forest minister Jyotipriya Mallick in the wee hours of Monday night from his Salt Lake residence in relation to a multi-crore ration distribution scam. Mallick was the minister for food and supplies prior to getting his present seat.

Shashi Panja, while speaking with the media, stated, “We have never said investigation should not happen. There should be an investigation and we have always cooperated with them but the timeline of these investigations is very suspicious.

Bhowmick said, “Na khaunga, na khaane dunga (Won’t eat, will not let anyone eat either) only applies if you’re not a member of another party. Khud bhi khaunga (I will eat alone) if they are a part of BJP.”

When contacted by The New Indian BJP Bishnupur MP Saumitra Khan on TMC’s allegations on his property, he said, “I have had my own business since 2002. In 2011 I had property that amounted to Rs 18 lakhs. I am now a Parliamentarian and earlier was elected as the MLA twice. I do not even have one-third of my salary with me. These types of words by TMC are absolutely illogical.”

Khan added that, unlike politicians in the TMC, there are politicians like him who are “transparent”. “I welcome her to sit face to face with me on any channel with my documents if they found more than one-third of my salary, all of my money will be hers,” he said.
