EC orders top police transfers in J&K ahead of polls

SRINAGAR: In a preparatory administrative overhaul before the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission has ordered the transfers of the Senior Superintendents of Police for Baramulla and Kupwara districts, along with the Superintendent of Police for Handwara.

 

Additionally, the Commission has instructed the administration to submit a list of IPS officers to be deployed in these Districts.

 

The Commission has also approved the release of Srinagar SSP Ashish Mishra, an IPS officer who was transferred from Jammu and Kashmir to the Delhi Police in June 2023 but was retained due to administrative delays.

The administration has been directed to provide a roster of IPS officers to fill the SP/SSP positions in Srinagar, Baramulla, Handwara, and Kupwara by Thursday evening.

 

Furthermore, the Election Commission has approved the appointment of IPS officer Nalin Prabhat as Director General (Operations and Security) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police until September 30. He is currently on inter-cadre deputation serving as Special Director General in Jammu and Kashmir until the same date.

 

The Commission also authorized the extension of the inter-cadre deputation tenure of IAS officer Syeed Fakhruddin Hamid, the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, for an additional two years. His current term ended on July 8 of this year.
