In a video that went viral on social media, Srinivas was seen using a reference to the famous song from the Bollywood movie Peepli Live but ended up making a sexist comment.

Mehengai daayan ko darling bana ke bedroom mein bitha diya hai (You have made inflation your darling and kept her in your bedroom),” Srinivas said in the rally.

It created a huge backlash on social media for its alleged inappropriate comment against a woman.

However, the IYC claimed that the video was doctored and that it would take appropriate legal action over the alleged misrepresentation of Srinivas’ speech.

The IYC said that selective quoting of Srinivas’ speech, made at Sankalp Satyagraha, which was organized to protest Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification, would be contested legally.

“Part of a video clip of Srinivas BV (IYC, National President) from ‘Sankalp Satyagraha’ held on March 26 has surfaced on various social media handles directly as a result of wide misrepresentation by BJP IT Cell members and various verified Twitter handles,” the IYC said.

“This is a clear case of misrepresentation and fabrication of facts, aimed at tarnishing the image of the organisation. The said speech by the IYC President was made in the context of various statements made by the BJP leaders about inflation and price rise when UPA was in power. Mehangai was then often quoted as Dayan by opposition leaders of BJP,” the IYC statement said.

Condemning attempts to tarnish the image of the IYC President, it said, “We condemn the miserable attempt to tarnish the image of IYC President and the age-old organization INC (Congress). We do not subscribe to any such thoughts as alleged by a few in power, and it smacks of political undertones and colours.”

“Appropriate legal action will be initiated against the perpetrators by IYC legal cell in this regard,” the IYC said.
