Diabetic-Kejriwal’s ‘4.5 kg loss’ scare in AAP, Tihar says he’s good

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have voiced concern over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health, alleging that his condition has been rapidly deteriorating since his arrest in the Delhi excise policy case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Delhi’s 42-year-old Finance Minister, Atishi highlighted that Kejriwal has lost approximately 4.5 kg since his arrest on March 21, emphasizing his severe diabetic condition and relentless dedication to serving the country.

The AAP leader wrote on X, “Arvind Kejriwal is a severe diabetic. Despite health problems, he used to work 24 hours a day to serve the country. Since his arrest, Arvind Kejriwal has lost 4.5 kg of weight. This is very worrying. Today, the BJP is putting his health at risk by putting him in jail. If something happens to Arvind Kejriwal, forget about the entire country, even God will not forgive them,” added Atishi, “BJP can go to any extent to ruin Arvind Kejriwal and AAP and hence I am warning BJP that the entire nation is watching you.”

Echoing Atishi’s sentiments, AAP leader Raghav Chadha expressed similar concerns, emphasising Kejriwal’s longstanding struggle with diabetes and his unwavering commitment to public service.

Taking to X he wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal’s deteriorating health is extremely worrying. He has been severely diabetic for many years. He has served the country for years without worrying about his health. After his arrest, his weight has dropped by 4.5 kg and his health is poor. The whole country is wishing for his good health.”

However, the administration at Tihar jail refuted these claims, they alleged that, upon arrival on April 1, Arvind Kejriwal underwent examination by two doctors, with all vitals reported as normal.

Despite reports of low blood sugar levels, the jail officials assured that Kejriwal is under close medical supervision, with provisions for his diabetes medication and dietary requirements. Permission has been granted for Kejriwal to retain his diabetes medication and candies to manage sugar fluctuations, with provisions for home-cooked meals.

Authorities also informed that, despite his confinement, Kejriwal remains engaged in physical activities, including yoga and meditation, within the confines of jail number 2. A senior Tihar jail official said Kejriwal’s vitals are normal.

Moreover, Kejriwal has been kept under 24×7 surveillance through CCTV cameras placed in his cell. Delhi’s CM, on Tuesday also spoke to his wife Sunita Kejriwal via video conferencing and met his lawyer in the jail.
