Central Congress leaders are expected to take a decision on the CM's post by Monday.

After a resounding victory in the Karnataka state elections, Congress party President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday had a crucial telephonic discussion with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to finalize the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate. Meanwhile, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Deepak Babaria, and Bhanwar Jeetender Singh have been appointed as central observers for Karnataka.

The eagerly awaited Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting is scheduled to take place today at 6 PM. This highly significant gathering will determine the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. Kharge has already departed for Delhi earlier in the day, setting the stage for the crucial decision-making process. The top contenders for the CM position are Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar, with Siddaramaiah appearing to have an edge. The CLP meeting will be held at the Shangri-La Hotel.

On Saturday, following Congress’s landslide victory, DK Shivakumar, overcome with emotion, tearfully recounted the powerful memory of Sonia Gandhi’s visit to him in Tihar Jail. Overwhelmed with gratitude, DK passionately declared, “I pledged to our leaders that I would secure Karnataka for you!”

Congress secured a convincing majority with 137 seats, while the BJP could only manage 65 seats in the election.
