Delhi Police Crime Branch is recreating the crime scene in the case of the gruesome murder of Haryana native Nikki Yadav by her live-in partner Sahil Gehlot earlier this month.
On Thursday, policemen took Sahil to Kashmere Gate where he allegedly strangled his partner Nikki to death before stuffing her body in a refrigerator.
Sahil will also be taken to Nikki’s flat from where he picked her up before the murder, and also the place where he hid her body, the police said.
Gahlot is currently in five days of police custody and is being interrogated.
Nikki Yadav, who was pursuing MA in English Honors, was allegedly killed by Sahil, a D Pharma student, in Dwarka’s Baba Haridas Nagar last week.
According to policemen, Sahil drove Nikki in his Hyundai Verna car on the night of February 9, a day before his scheduled marriage with another woman chosen by his parents.
Both wanted to take a bus from Kashmere Gate bus station to leave the city. But he decided to get rid of Nikki after he started getting calls from his family since he was not present at his home.
He parked a car at an isolated spot and picked up a mobile charger cable to strangle Nikki. After killing her, Sahil drove the car to a foot joint owned by his family in Dwarka and stuffed her body in a refrigerator.
He was planning to dump her body parts after his marriage, said the police.
The police also said Nikki had confronted Sahil when she got to know about his secret marriage plan.
On the evening of February 9, Sahil picked up Nikki from her rented accommodation in the Bindapur area. Footage from CCTV cameras installed in her building shows Nikki was present at her apartment till the afternoon.
Nikki was a native of Haryana’s Jhajjar and was living in Delhi for her studies. Her father Sunil Dutt said that she wanted to pursue PhD after her master’s degree. “I have no idea when she got involved in this relationship,” he said.
Sahil and Nikki became friends when they were attending coaching classes after their schooling. Later, both took admission to a college in Greater Noida and started living together.
Her father and other family members have demanded the death penalty for Sahil. “I want Sahil to be hanged till death,” he told media persons.
Nikki’s cremation was conducted in her home town in Jhajjar on Wednesday after a post-mortem examination.
The autopsy report shows that Nikki struggled for life before losing consciousness. Injury marks were found on her waist and legs, the police said.
It was Sahil’s father who took the lid off when he reported him to the police. He also dialled Nikki’s father and informed him that Sahil had surrendered himself before cops after his marriage on February 10.
