Delhi Liquor Policy Row: Police Seek Report From Excise Dept

NEW DELHI: Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has sought a report from the Assistant Commissioner of Excise Administration, GNCT, Delhi in connection with the alleged scam in distributing the licenses in Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena had raised questions on the Delhi Excise Policy and recommended for CBI inquiry into the matter. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police also conducting a probe into the matter.

The letter dated July 13, sent by an inspector level officer to the Assistant Commissioner of Delhi Excise department, sought the “date of formulation of the policy, date of floating of tenders, date of grant of liquor license, application forms of all successful applicants (all 32 zones) along with other relevant documents submitted for grant of liquor license and what procedure was followed to check monopolies and cartels of successful applicants”.

The agency was also required to get the details of whether any SOP was prepared to check monopolies and cartels of successful applicants.

“In a reply dated June 21, supplied by excise department to EOW, it has been stated that SOP to rule out monopolies and cartels by successful companies was as per tender document dated 28.06.21 & 13.08.21. Please mention specifically the relevant clause of these documents and who was responsible to implement said SOP” the letter read.
