NEW DELHI: Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood has declared that the government will not permit illegal infiltrators to reside in the national capital and will take stringent action against individuals who have facilitated their unlawful settlement.
Addressing the Delhi Assembly on Thursday, Sood emphasized that Delhi’s resources are intended for its legitimate residents and should not be diverted to those residing illegally.
During his speech, Sood announced plans for the Delhi government to assume control of the Lampur Detention Centre, a facility designated for holding illegal immigrants prior to their deportation. He highlighted the administration’s commitment to collaborating with law enforcement agencies to conduct well-planned crackdowns on illegal infiltrators, particularly those from Bangladesh, and to hold accountable those who provide them shelter and support.
“We will not let any illegal infiltrator stay in Delhi,” Sood asserted, underscoring the government’s dedication to addressing immigration challenges and ensuring that resources are allocated to lawful residents.
He further stated that individuals who have assisted illegal infiltrators in obtaining documents such as Aadhaar cards, ration cards, or securing rental accommodations will face legal consequences.
In addition to addressing illegal immigration, Sood outlined the government’s budgetary focus on fundamental civic issues. He noted that the administration is prioritizing essential infrastructure improvements, such as sewer repairs, in response to the immediate needs expressed by citizens.
This approach signifies a shift towards addressing basic amenities to enhance the quality of life for Delhi’s residents.
Furthermore, Sood announced plans to construct a high-security jail complex in Narela, reflecting the government’s commitment to bolstering the city’s security infrastructure.
Political Reactions and Future Implications
The government’s firm stance on illegal immigration and its budgetary allocations have sparked debates within the Delhi Assembly. Opposition members have raised concerns regarding the implementation and potential social implications of these policies.
Despite the criticisms, Minister Sood remains resolute in the administration’s vision for a “Viksit Delhi,” emphasizing transparency, infrastructure development, and the enforcement of legal immigration policies.
As the government moves forward with its agenda, the focus will be on implementing policies that address the immediate needs of Delhi’s residents while ensuring that the city’s resources are utilized for the benefit of lawful citizens. The administration’s approach aims to rectify past missteps and build a foundation for a more organized and lawful urban environment.
