New Delhi: In a significant move benefiting retired power sector employees, the Delhi Government has approved an increase in the gratuity limit for pensioners under the Delhi Vidyut Board-Employees Terminal Benefit Fund (2002) from ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh. The decision, announced by the Power Department on Monday, fulfills a long-standing demand of around 500 pensioners.

The proposal, discussed in detail by the Power Department, has been submitted for ratification by the Board of Trustees. According to the government, the enhanced limit aligns with recommendations from the Government of India’s Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare.

Power Minister Ashish Sood stated that the financial impact of the hike is estimated at ₹16 crore for the period between January 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, with an additional ₹15 crore allocated for dearness allowance (DA) and future increments.

“The Delhi Government remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of retired employees and ensuring timely resolution of their concerns,” Sood said. The move is expected to enhance financial security for former employees of the Delhi Vidyut Board (DVB), which was disbanded in 2002 during power sector reforms.

The decision marks another step in the government’s efforts to address pensioners’ demands, following previous revisions in terminal benefits. Officials noted that the approval reflects Delhi’s focus on improving post-retirement welfare measures.

Further details regarding implementation timelines will be announced after formal approval by the Board of Trustees.
