SRINAGAR: The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, on Monday visited Siachen Glacier today, the highest battlefield, and conducted a firsthand assessment of the security situation with senior Army Commanders, including Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, who accompanied him from New Delhi.

Addressing the troops at a forward base at an altitude of 15,100 feet, Rajnath praised the soldiers for their commitment to safeguarding the nation with courage and resolve in harsh conditions. He expressed the nation’s enduring gratitude to the Armed Forces personnel for their sacrifices, which ensure the safety of every citizen.

 

 

“We lead peaceful lives knowing that our brave soldiers stand firm at the borders. In the future, when the history of national security is chronicled, the acts of courage and unwavering determination of our soldiers in the frigid Siachen Glacier will be commemorated with pride. They will serve as a perpetual inspiration for generations to come,” stated the Defense Minister.

Rajnath received a comprehensive assessment of the situation at Siachen Glacier from Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande, Northern Command Chief Lieutenant General MV Suchindra Kumar, and General Officer Commanding (GOC) Leh-based 14 Corps Lieutenant General Rashim Bali.

 

 

Following an aerial survey, Rajnath Singh arrived at a forward base at an altitude of 15,100 feet and received a detailed briefing on operational readiness in Siachen Glacier and the prevailing security scenario. He also engaged in discussions on the operational challenges with the Commanders on the ground.

Engaging with soldiers amid harsh conditions, the Defence Minister praised Siachen as India’s epitome of courage and determination, akin to Delhi’s political capital, Mumbai’s financial hub, and Bengaluru’s technological center.
