NEW DELHI: The Congress has alleged that women are unsafe in Odisha. The party urged the Supreme Court to order a probe into rising crimes against women.
At a press conference, Odisha Congress president Bhakta Charan Das and state in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu shared shocking details. They accused the BJP government of ignoring crimes against women.
They cited cases of sexual exploitation of young girls. In one case, a girl delivered a baby in the exam hall. In another, a Class VI student from the Chief Minister’s district became pregnant after being raped.“While everyone is feeling ashamed of such incidents, the government is shameless about it”, he observed.
Congress demanded accountability from the BJP government. They criticized the Chief Minister for comparing crime rates to past governments instead of taking action.
Das questioned the Prime Minister about his ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ slogan. He said crimes against women in Odisha continue to rise.
Official data reveals 3,420 women and 8,430 children have gone missing in eight months. The state has also recorded 54 gang rapes.
Congress leaders urged the President and central government to take action. They warned that without strict measures, crimes would increase.
Das called for a probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge. He said the state government must be held accountable.
Congress announced a statewide agitation. They plan to raise awareness in villages and across the country.
Ajay Kumar Lallu said law and order in Odisha has collapsed. He cited the Chief Minister’s own admission of rising crime.
He pointed out that 13 women go missing daily in the state. He demanded answers from the Union Home Minister on the worsening situation.
Lallu said Congress will continue to fight for justice. He demanded strong action against those responsible for these crimes.
The party vowed to keep raising this issue until the government acts. They want justice for women and children in Odisha.
