Delhi public works department (PWD) minister Atishi Marlena on Saturday directed senior government officials to complete the ongoing maintenance work on the Chirag Delhi flyover within a month.

Marlena inspected the work going on at the flyover on the instructions of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The PWD is carrying out repair work on the flyover to ensure the safety of commuters, but there have been complaints of traffic jams.

Atishi has directed officials to expedite the maintenance work and complete the first phase by March 31, while also devising a better traffic management plan.

Under the direction of the chief minister, the PWD is committed to making Delhi traffic-jam-free and maintaining road infrastructure.

One of the two lanes on the flyover will remain open for commuters during maintenance work, and Atishi will inspect the flyover again on March 25 to monitor the progress of the work.

While inspecting the work along with the department officials and Delhi Police officials, Atishi directed the officials to double the pace of maintenance work and ensure the completion of the first phase by March 31. Along with this PWD minister also directed the Delhi Police officials to chalk out an alternate route plan for the convenience of the commuters.

“PWD is working to make the city beautiful and roads traffic jam-free. Getting Delhiites relief from traffic jams is his priority, therefore, he (CM Arvind Kejriwal) himself is monitoring the maintenance work across the city,” the minister said.

She further stated: “Given the requirement of the Chirag Delhi flyover which is used by thousands of commuters every day, PWD is carrying out maintenance work on a war footing. As per the suggestion of the Chief Minister, we have decided to keep one of the two lanes open for the commuters to avoid any inconvenience to them. This will be closely monitored by me.”

She said that officials have been asked to double the pace of the work and in the meanwhile, the Delhi Police will chalk out an alternate route plan to avoid any traffic jams on the flyover or in nearby areas.
