New Delhi: Consul General Pratik Mathur today held a meeting with the senior leadership team of China Eastern Airlines, including Shen Jinsong, Senior General Manager (Global), to discuss collaboration opportunities in the civil aviation and hospitality sectors.
China Eastern Airlines, one of China’s major carriers headquartered in Shanghai, operates a fleet of over 800 aircraft and serves more than 220 destinations, making it the second-largest airline in the country by passenger volume.
India, meanwhile, is experiencing explosive growth in its aviation industry. The number of airports has expanded from 74 in 2013–14 to nearly 220 in 2024–25, driven in part by the UDAN scheme’s push to improve regional connectivity. The aviation sector is projected to contribute up to a staggering $1 trillion annually to India’s economy by 2043, according to IATA forecasts.
Travel and tourism companies based in Shanghai, a key hub for China Eastern Airlines, remain actively engaged in exploring the business potential that a fast-growing Indian market presents.
