Celebrated Singer Usha Uthup’s husband dies at 78

NEW DELHI: Jani Chacko Uthup, the beloved husband of renowned singer Usha Uthup, passed away at the age of 78 due to a cardiac arrest. Jani was the second husband of Usha, he suffered the attack while watching TV at his Kolkata residence on Monday night. He was rushed to hospital but despite efforts, he was pronounced dead.

The last rites for Jani Uthup were conducted on Tuesday in Kolkata. His daughter, Anjali Uthup, paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father on social media, saying, “Appa… gone too soon… but as stylishly as you lived… the most handsome man in the world… we love you, a true gentleman and Lawrencian to the core and the finest Tea Taster.”

Born in 1946, Jani Chacko Uthup was associated with the tea plantation sector and hailed from the Manarcaud Painumkal family in Kottayam. He and Usha led a simple and private life, largely keeping their relationship out of the public eye.

Usha Uthup, an iconic figure in the Indian music industry with hits like “Shaan Se,” “Hare Rama Hare Krishna,” and “Ramba Ho,” mourns the loss of her husband, who supported her throughout her illustrious career.

The singer’s story began in the early ’70s when she was married to her first husband Ramu in Kolkata at the iconic Trincas. According to reports, Usha and Jani’s love story is both unique and touching.
