New Delhi: In a major crackdown on cyber-enabled financial crimes, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted simultaneous raids at 10 locations across Delhi, Hisar, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik as part of Operation Chakra-V. The agency also arrested a Kalyan (Mumbai) resident for allegedly supplying pre-activated SIM cards and mule bank accounts to cybercriminal networks, aiding their illegal activities.

Key Details of the Operation:

– The case involves a large-scale investment fraud where victims were lured through a fake mobile app and WhatsApp groups.

– Fraudsters promised discounted shares of reputed listed companies but siphoned off investors’ money instead.

– The arrested accused played a crucial role in providing SIM cards and bank accounts to cybercriminals, facilitating the fraud.

– Digital and documentary evidence was seized during the raids, exposing the elaborate scam.

CBI’s Stance:

The operation highlights the CBI’s intensified efforts to dismantle cybercrime syndicates and their support networks. “Operation Chakra-V reflects our commitment to protecting citizens from online financial fraud,” the agency stated.

Investigations are ongoing, with more arrests likely as the CBI tracks down other key players in the scam.
