CBI Arrests 7 For Killing 1 In Bengal Post Poll Violence

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday said that it has arrested seven people in connection with the Bengal post-poll violence case involving the killing of one Sridhar Das.

The CBI said that the agency has arrested Pranab Barkait, Pritam Roy Sarkar, Ratan Roy Sarkar, Liton Shil, Liton Bhaumik, Nakul Roy Sarkar, Biswajit Barman aka Biswa.

The official said that searches were conducted around eight locations in Cooch Behar, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents and articles.

All arrested persons were produced before a court and sent to CBI custody.

The CBI had registered a case on the orders of the Calcutta High Court dated August 19 last year pertaining to post-poll violence in Bengal. CBI had taken over the investigation of a case earlier registered on June 25, 2021, at Dinhata Police Station in Cooch Behar.

In the FIR it was alleged that on May 4, 2021, Das was mercilessly beaten with sticks and iron rods by unknown persons.

When the wife of the victim came to rescue her husband, she was also mercilessly beaten by the accused. After the incident, Das was admitted to Dinhata Hospital and later to other hospitals/nursing homes in Cooch Behar. He died during treatment on June 21 last year.
