NEW DELHI: The Golden Globe Awards, famed as the ultimate star-studded bash, unfolded as a peculiar yet glamorous high school reunion for the Hollywood elite, bustling with encounters, kisses, and idol swooning.

While some celebrities caught up with old pals and co-stars, others engaged in public displays of affection, and a few fawned over the famous faces they hadn’t yet met. Occasionally, these interactions took centre stage, like Yorgos Lanthimos’s enchantment with Bruce Springsteen, which occurs away from the cameras. Another was Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s kiss during commercial breaks.

Despite several scandal-laden years, the returning Golden Globes retained their charm inside the familiar ballroom, with discussions revolving around the event’s joyous return, the anticipated appearance of Travis Kelce alongside Taylor Swift, which didn’t happen, and speculations about who would benefit from the anticipated Oscar boost.

However, some guests grumbled about last-minute seating arrangements, leaving high-profile attendees unaware of their tablemates until late Saturday afternoon.

The pre-show buzz intensified as the stars hurried from the red carpet for the opening monologue. Jennifer Lawrence, famed for her love of “lukewarm chardonnay,” arrived last-minute, martini in hand, while Oprah Winfrey, escorted by a substantial security team, commanded attention alongside Gayle King.

Harrison Ford shared his table with an excited Selena Gomez, relishing the Nobu sushi. The upgraded menu was a hit among attendees, a refreshing change from the usual fare of chicken, fish, and root vegetables that often vanished before everyone settled in.

A star-studded commotion ensued as Martin Short joined Selena, initially seated in a spot reserved for Meryl Streep. The laughter drew in Ford, who gestured for Short to remain seated but eventually engaged in a jovial exchange. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck mingled with Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group Tom Rothman before reuniting with longtime friend Matt Damon.

In other corners, Gary Oldman exchanged pleasantries with ‘Oppenheimer’ director Christopher Nolan, while the announcement over the loudspeaker urged everyone to find their seats promptly.

Unlike previous years, the TV tables rivalled the movie ones, with “The Bear” cast gathering in a bustling area following their consecutive wins. Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White stuck close throughout the evening, capturing moments with a digital camera.

Elsewhere, Joaquin Phoenix was given a cheek kiss by director Ari Aster, while Emily Blunt and John Krasinski shared warm greetings with Martin Scorsese, and Katharine McPhee snapped photos on her phone, capturing the room’s excitement.
