NEW DELHI: Indian air defence systems, including advanced Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) units, were activated on Thursday evening following an aggressive aerial attack by Pakistani drones and missiles targeting multiple locations in Jammu.

Key areas targeted included Jammu Airport, Pathankot, Akhnoor, and Samba.

According to preliminary intelligence reports, eight missiles were launched from Pakistan, directed at Jammu Civil Airport, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and surrounding regions. However, the Indian Air Defence network, led by the S-400 system, successfully intercepted and neutralized all incoming threats, preventing any damage or casualties on the ground.

Eyewitnesses reported intense anti-aircraft activity in the sky as the S-400 system, along with other SAM units, engaged the hostile aerial targets.

The swift and precise response of the Indian air defence has been widely appreciated, with local authorities urging residents to stay indoors as a precautionary measure.

Sources indicate that the activation of the air defence system triggered a temporary blackout in parts of Jammu, particularly near sensitive installations, as a security measure. Local administration is monitoring the situation closely, while the Indian Air Force (IAF) remains on high alert for any further provocations.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has temporarily suspended flight operations at Jammu Airport and other northern airports, including Srinagar and Amritsar, until May 10.

The Ministry of Defence is expected to issue an official statement soon, and further updates will follow as the situation develops.
