HYDERABAD: With just six days remaining until the crucial elections in Telangana, the BJP’s central leadership has mounted an assertive campaign in Hyderabad and the southern districts. The saffron party is optimistic about making inroads into the traditional strongholds of the Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress, deploying senior cabinet ministers such as Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Nirmala Sitharaman for extensive campaigning across the state.

One of the significant challenges faced by the Telangana BJP leadership is the absence of a powerful local leader, unlike the Congress and BRS. The central leaders, including cabinet ministers, are striving to connect with constituencies where the party has a realistic chance of winning.
BJP leaders on the ground revealed to The New Indian that there is a subtle wave favouring the party, and they express confidence that the election results on December 3rd will be a triumphant day for the BJP.
“People in Telangana are disenchanted with KCR and his government because he has not fulfilled any of the promises made to the state’s residents. The BJP seems to be the best option, as the Congress has presented a manifesto unlikely to be implemented, filled with hollow promises. PM Modi’s charisma and the developmental and welfare agenda of our party will influence the upcoming elections,” stated Thokala Sreenivas Reddy, BJP candidate for Rajaji Nagar.
As the campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections reaches its culmination, the BJP’s efforts to gain ground in Telangana are expected to disrupt the prospects of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi and the Congress in several constituencies. Political observers monitoring the ground sentiment suggest that this could be particularly noticeable in the Hyderabad region and South Telangana.
According to regional political analysts, the BJP, based on various ground reports, could spring surprises in at least 15-20 Assembly constituencies, particularly in the urban areas of northern Telangana, potentially upsetting the BRS and the Congress.
Following the Karnataka assembly elections in May 2023, the party seemed to lose momentum and ceded ground to the Congress. The replacement of Bandi Sanjay with Kishan Reddy has further demoralized the party cadre, according to an anonymous leader who spoke to The New Indian.
Despite these challenges, there is a positive sentiment for the BJP in North Telangana, cultivated through groundwork led by party leaders, especially Bandy Sanjay during his tenure at the helm.
