New Delhi: The businessman who was shot at during a failed robbery attempt in central Delhi’s Tilak Marg was carrying Rs 2 crore, not Rs 5 lakh as initially claimed by police, sources have revealed.

The victim, a Noida resident, was intercepted by four assailants near Pragati Maidan tunnel on May 2, with one of them firing a bullet that hit him in the abdomen.

As of now, two more suspects—including a Delhi University graduate—have been arrested, taking the total number of apprehended accused to four, including a juvenile. The latest arrests include Sahil Malik and Shivam Bhadoria, who were caught near Sarojini Nagar while allegedly planning another robbery.

Despite being injured, the businessman managed to escape and first went home before reporting the incident to the police. Sources say the robbers were aware of the large sum of money he was carrying.

Police had earlier arrested Govind, an employee at the victim’s perfume export business, along with a juvenile. Investigations revealed that Govind had shared the businessman’s movements with the gang.

A semi-automatic illegal pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the arrested suspects. Bhadoria, a DU graduate, and Malik, a part-time bouncer, were known associates. Authorities are now probing the whereabouts of the stolen Rs 2 crore.
