Bihar cabinet gives nod to recruitment of 1.78 lakh teachers

Patna: The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has given the green signal to the Teacher Service Regulations 2023, clearing the way for the recruitment of 178,036 teachers through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). In a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, the proposal brought forth by the Education Department of teacher recruitment was approved. 

Aspiring teachers have been waiting eagerly for the exam syllabus to be made public. It is estimated that by May 10, the format, questions, and other details related to the recruitment exam will be announced. The advertisement for the BPSC recruitment exam is expected to be published in the last week of May, and the recruitment process will begin in June-July, completing by the end of July.

In the cabinet meeting, positions for teachers were created in different categories, ranging from classes 1 to 5, classes 6 to 8, high school, and 11th and 12th grades. Approval has been given to create 85,477 positions for classes 1 to 5, and 1,745 positions for classes 6 to 8. A total of 90,804 positions have been approved for 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades.

It has become apparent that for the recruitment of teachers, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) pass candidates will have to pass the BPSC exam. 

For classes 1 to 5, there will be recruitment of teachers on 50,477 positions, and their base salary will be INR 25,000. For upper primary classes i.e., from class 6 to 8, there will be recruitment of teachers on 1,745 seats, and their base salary will be INR 28,000.

For secondary classes i.e., 9th and 10th, there will be recruitment of 33,186 teachers, and their base salary has been fixed at INR 31,000. For higher secondary classes i.e., 11th and 12th, 57,618 teachers will be appointed, and their base salary has been fixed at INR 32,000.

Salary is determined after a teacher is appointed under the new rules in Bihar Teacher Recruitment Regulation, teachers will be given a daily allowance, housing allowance, and medical allowance separately on their base salary. At present, the DA is 42 percent, while the housing allowance ranges from 4 to 16 percent for different categories of locations. Additionally, the medical allowance is INR 1,000. After adding all these, the amount will be deducted by INR 1,800 per month towards employee provident fund. The remaining amount will be received as their salary every month.
