NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar has been arrested by the Delhi Police on Saturday. The arrest comes two days after the Police registered an FIR based on AAP Rajya Sabha MP, Swati Maliwal’s statement in the alleged assault case.

The former chairperson of Delhi commission for women, alleged in her statement that Bibhav Kumar slapped her 7-8 times, and kicked her repeatedly when she went to the CM’s residence on May 13. She further claimed this incident happened while the AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was present at his residence.

However, Bibhav Kumar has filed a counter-complaint. Bibhav mailed the Delhi Police early morning on Saturday, assuring them of his readiness to cooperate in the investigation.

In the mail sent at 09:52 am, Bibhav claimed that he was unaware of the FIR and came to know about it through the media. Denying to have received any notice from the Delhi police, he urged them to take cognizance of his alleged complaint in a mail he sent on 17th May, detailing the facts of the incident.

On Friday, the Delhi police took Swati Maliwal to CM’s residence to recreate the crime scene, following which her statement was recorded before a magistrate at the Tis Hazari Court.

Earlier, Maliwal urged BJP members not to politicize the incident. “What happened to me was very unpleasant. I have given my statement to the police regarding the incident. I hope appropriate action will be taken. The past few days have been very difficult for me. I am thankful to those who prayed for me. For those who attempted character assassination and claimed that I was acting at the behest of another party, may God bless them too. There are crucial elections happening in the country; Swati Maliwal is not essential, the country’s issues are essential,” she posted on social media.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has not yet commented on the matter. The BJP has been consistently attacking the AAP, alleging that the assault on Maliwal was orchestrated at the instructions of the Chief Minister and that the party is attempting to cover up the incident. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also summoned Bibhav Kumar in connection with the case.
