NEW DELHI: BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover and his wife, Madhuri, have been booked by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on charges of forgery, cheating, criminal breach of trust, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence, escalating the bitter feud between the fintech firm and former CEO.

The EOW registered the case based on a complaint filed by Resilient Innovations Pvt Ltd, BharatPe’s parent company.

The alleged offenses carry a potential punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment.

The dispute come out in the public last year when Ashneer Grover resigned from the BharatPe board after his wife was terminated for allegedly misappropriating company funds for personal expenses. Subsequently, BharatPe accused the Grovers of using the company’s finances to cover expenses such as rent, plane tickets, skincare products, and diverting funds to fictitious vendors and recruitment services.

It filed a civil lawsuit in the Delhi High Court seeking damages amounting to ₹88.67 crore from the Grover family. The lawsuit contends that Ashneer Grover and his family established fabricated vendors in Panipat, generating false invoices and overcharging the company for recruitment services.

The company seeks reimbursement of ₹71.7 crore for payments made to non-existent vendors, ₹7.6 crore for purported recruitment services, and ₹5 crore for damages caused by defamatory statements made by the Grovers, which harmed BharatPe’s reputation.

BharatPe also accuses Ashneer Grover of engaging in an incessant social media campaign against the company. In a separate development, the company initiated an arbitration claim in Singapore to recover the restricted shares allotted to Ashneer Grover and prevent him from using the title of founder.

Meanwhile, Madhuri Grover, wife of Ashneer Grover, has been accused of using company funds to pay personal staff and indulging in personal beauty treatments, purchasing electronic items, and organizing family trips to the United States and Dubai. In response, Madhuri has leveled allegations of misconduct against Suhail Sameer, BharatPe’s co-founder and CEO.
