Kannur– Willing to know where you stand on daily power usage and require tips on how to control the usage going forward? The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will notify the users once the electricity bill starts shooting up. Thanks to Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, every user will receive notifications on the usage time, and usage limit details will be informed to the user where he or she will receive the notifications to the mobile using AI applications.

The KSEB has in its possession all the registered phone numbers and the associated details of all the users. Kerala currently has 1.385 crore registered users. The AI application will inform the user of the total consumption in the previous year and the current usage, ways to minimize the usage, etc.

A similar AI technology is being employed in the Bruhat Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport undertaking and currently, the KSEB officials are studying the various feasibility aspects of the AI-based technology to check if it can be implemented in Kerala. In a slight relief for the electricity board, the daily consumption has reduced in the state since May 3rd.

As per senior KSEB officials, Kerala’s daily power consumption has fallen substantially since May 3rd onwards. This was evident from the fact that the KSEB has refrained from depending on prohibitively costly gas and naphtha-based power.

On Saturday, May 11th the total state consumption was 9.88 crore units. It was after a long interval that the total consumption fell below 10 crore units. One reason cited for this is the summer rains that have hit the state for the past week and the advisories put out by the electricity department. For the past month, the daily power consumption during the evening hours was 4976 Mega Watts, however, this has come down in the first week of May.

As per the weather department, the state is expecting rainfall in seven districts for the next 3 days following which a yellow alert is issued.
