After Kejriwal, It’s Sidhu’s Turn To Woo The Women Voters Of Punjab

CHANDIGARH: There appears to be a mad scramble among political parties to beat each other in making poll promises to their prospective voters ahead of assembly elections in Punjab.

After Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal made an announcement to give Rs 1,000 per month to women, Punjab state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday, made several announcements for sops to women.

Addressing a rally in Sahana in Barnala district, Sidhu announced that the government will give Rs 2000 every month to women and eight LPG cylinders free annually, if their party is voted to power.

Apart from this, many announcements have also been made for school going girls. Sidhu announced an annual incentive of Rs 5,000 to all girls who complete their class V, Rs 10,000 to the eighth pass, Rs 15,000 to the 10th pass, tablet to girls who get admission in the 11th and Rs 20,000 to those girls who pass 12th. Girls who pass 12th will be given electric scooter to go to college.

“In order to give equal rights to women, no stamp duty will be charged if a property is registered in the name of a woman. To enhance the skills of women, one skill center will be set up in all the districts of Punjab. Women taking courses from these centres will be given an interest-free loan of two lakh to start a business of their choice. Single window system will also be established for this in villages and cities,” Sidhu announced.

Speaking on women’s safety, Sidhu said that women commando battalions will be deployed in villages and cities. There will be two women commandos in each village. Such an arrangement will help in preventing the incidents of molestation, he said. “Just a single call will ensure that the team will reach the spot to help them,” he added.

Sidhu said that all the announcements made by him will find a place in the election manifesto of Congress. He said he is in talks with the party high command regarding the same.
