Bollywood Music Composer, Shankar Mahadevan attends RSS Vijayadashami celebrations as a chief guest

NAGPUR: On Tuesday, legendary music composer and Bollywood singer Shankar Mahadevan hailed the contribution of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) towards the nation, its culture, traditions, and the preservation of the ideology of “Akhand Bharat”. Additionally, he commended the generosity and humility displayed by RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Addressing the annual Vijayadashami event of the RSS in the Reshimbagh area of Nagpur, the 56-year-old vocalist, who graced the programme as the chief guest, began his address with a soulful rendition of Saraswati Vandana, setting a melodious tone for the gathering.

In his speech, Mahadevan shared his experience at the RSS event, particularly highlighting the personal and warm nature of the invitation he received from RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Reflecting on the invitation, Mahadevan noted, “He could have invited me informally on WhatsApp, and I could have easily come. But the invitation was personal, with a lot of love, respect, and warmth, which touched me deeply.”

He expressed his disbelief when he met RSS Chief in Mumbai, stating, “I couldn’t believe the simplicity & humility of Dr. Mohan Bhagwat when I met him in Mumbai. Expressing his delight on being invited for the event he added,” I rubbed my eyes in disbelief that RSS wanted to have me as chief guest on this Dussehra.”

He further described the event as “mind-blowing,” acknowledging the grandeur and significance of the gathering, which involved paying tribute to remarkable individuals.

Mahadevan, who is known for his melodious voice, continued by saying, “Seeing all this has made me an even more proud Bhartiya Nagrik,” highlighting how the event and Bhagwat’s warmth had strengthened his sense of national pride.

Acknowledging the contribution of the Sangh, Shankar stated, “No one contributes more than RSS in preserving our culture and heritage. Every single citizen, regardless of their profession, has certain responsibilities as a proud Indian citizen. You need to demonstrate respect and love for the essence of this country through your work or your core competence.”
