AAP’s Liquor Policy: BJP Hits Streets With High-Decibel Protest

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) protest against the “flawed” liquor policy of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spilled on the streets of Delhi on Thursday evening.

Slogans of ‘Guli guli mein shor hai Manish Sisodia chor hai’ and ‘Liquor mafia murdabad’ rent the air as the BJP activists staged a demonstration near pocket H of Sarita Vihar. They also distributed pamphlets to passers-by.

Interestingly, the protest came on a day when the AAP legislators convened a meeting to discuss the alleged “poaching” bid by the BJP and also offered prayers at the Raj Ghat. The BJP’s street protest is a clear indication that the BJP-AAP confrontation has peaked and is assuming an ugly form.

The BJP demonstrators, who hit the roads, vociferously vented their ire at AAP. Pawan Pandey, BJP zonal president of Sarita Vihar ward no. 101 who led from the front, said, “CM Arvind Kejriwal has turned Delhi into a madira nagri (liquor city). Free alcohol is flowing and the AAP is playing with lives.”

He added, “Kejriwal should have himself put Sisodia behind bars, but it’s a pity that he is shielding him. The actual face of the party, which boasted of its morality, has been exposed.”

Another activist, Sanjeev Kaushik, said that the AAP made liquor a business. He added that they sold a ₹280 liquor bottle at ₹560 and also gave the commission to the dealers. “I want a thorough investigation into the irregularities so that the truth is revealed and the culprits are punished.”

Janmayjay Sharma, another BJP worker who held aloft the party flag, pointed out, “The CM is befooling the people. He is promoting a product which is a slow poison. Imagine the impact on the students and youngsters.”

Pandey chipped in, “The AAP has no issues and therefore, it is trying to cover up their misdeeds. Now, when the heat is on them, they are levelling baseless allegations that we tried to buy their MLAs. Where’s the proof? The BJP doesn’t indulge in such cheap acts. If there is any taint on anyone, he is shown the door.”

A BJP demonstrator said, “By offering free alcohol, the AAP has stooped low. It has created rifts and broken families.”

Kumardev Kant, a passer-by, said, “I don’t represent any party. I only support the truth. And the truth is that AAP has lost the plot. Sisodia should concentrate on improving schools. The allegation that AAP MLAs were offered bribes needs to be backed with evidence.”
